Rousínov lies twelve kilometres southwest of Vyškov, by the Rakovec stream. Its first written mention dates to 1222.
Rousínov was originally called Nový Rousínov and was a fortified town, as shown on the oldest map of Moravia by Pavel Fabricius from 1569. The town's branch church of St Mary Magdalene dates from 1696 to 1717.
