Odry lies on the Odra River in the Nový Jičín District. The town is 274 metres above sea level.
The first written record of Odry under the name Vyhnanov dates to 1234. Odry is named as a town in 1362. The historic centre is an urban conservation area. It includes St Bartholomew's Church, dating from 1373, which was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1691–1692.
