Uherský Brod lies on the Olšava River, fourteen kilometres south-east of Uherské Hradiště.

The first written records of the town date from 1048. Přemysl Otakar II raised Uherský Brod to the status of a royal town. The Jan Amos Komenský Museum operates in Uherský Brod. The parish Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary dates from 1717 to 1733.
