Týnec nad Sázavou lies on both banks of the Sázava, about 30 km south of Prague and 9 km north-west of Benešov.
A Romanesque rotunda stands on the left bank. The town's first written mention dates from 1318. The museum in the castle grounds has an exhibition of Týnec stoneware, made here from 1791 to 1866.
