Turnov lies on the Jizera River at the edge of the Bohemian Paradise, in the Semily District. The town was first mentioned in writing in 1272.

The Museum of the Bohemian Paradise in Turnov is on Skálova Street and was founded in 1886. Hrubý Rohozec Castle stands in Turnov's local area of Hrubý Rohozec, which was first mentioned in writing in 1322. The Neo-Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary stands on Marian Square and was built between 1825 and 1853.
