Slavkov u Brna lies on the Litava River. It is twenty kilometres east of Brno.
The first written mention of Slavkov u Brna appears in a charter issued by King Václav I in 1237. The town is known for the battle of 2 December 1805, in which Napoleon I was victorious. Václav Antonín z Kounic-Rietbergu completed Slavkov Castle – Austerlitz in its present form.
