Skuteč lies about 19 km south-east of Chrudim. The Krounka River flows through a deep valley in the eastern part of its territory.
Written records document settlement in Skuteč in 1289. The town probably gained town status around 1330. SeniorCentrum, established by the town, provides social support. The Skuteč Cultural Club on Rubešova Street hosts concerts and other cultural events.
