Přeštice lies on the Úhlava River, about twenty kilometres south of Pilsen. It was first recorded in 1226.

The Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was designed by K. I. Dientzenhofer. It has been a national cultural monument since 2008. Architect and patron Josef Hlávka was born in Přeštice; the house where he was born is a cultural monument, and the family's Neo-Gothic tomb dates from 1887. Composer Jakub Jan Ryba was born here in 1765, and his monument stands beside the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
