Pohořelice lies 25 km south of Brno. The Jihlava flows through the town, which lies in the flat Dyje-Svratka Valley. The town is about 181 m above sea level.
Both of the earliest written mentions of Pohořelice date from 1222. The town lies in the Mikulov wine-growing subregion. Local landmarks include the Baroque Paar manor house, dating from around 1693, and the Church of St James the Elder.
