Lovosice lies on the left bank of the Elbe, at the southern foot of the Bohemian Central Highlands. Prague is less than 50 km away.
The first written mention of Lovosice dates from 1143, and the town has a long tradition in the chemical and food industries. The nearest mountain is Lovoš. Nearby lies Oparenské údolí, with the ruins of Oparno Castle.
