Kosmonosy lies about 50 km north-east of Prague. It borders directly on Mladá Boleslav.

Kosmonosy was first mentioned in a charter in 1186, by which the settlement was granted to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Local sights include a chateau founded in the second half of the 16th century and the baroque Loreta, built between 1704 and 1712 to a design by G. B. Alliprandi.
