Ivančice lies 20 km south-west of Brno. The town is at the confluence of the Jihlava, Oslava and Rokytná rivers.
The first written record of Ivančice dates from 1221. The town flourished in the 16th century, when bishops of the Unity of the Brethren were based there and their printing press operated. Ivančice's historic centre is a designated urban conservation area. It contains the Gothic parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries.
