Hořice lies about 23 km south-east of Jičín. It is about 25 km north-west of Hradec Králové.
The first written mention of Hořice dates from 1143 and appears in the founding charter of Strahov Monastery. Hořice is known as a town of stone, and Hořice sandstone is also well known. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built between 1741 and 1748.
