Boskovice lies on the edge of the Drahanská vrchovina uplands. The town is 14 km north of Blansko. It is 33 km north of Brno.
The historic centre, including the Jewish ghetto, has been an urban conservation area since 1990. Above the town stands a castle dating from the 13th century. The town also has a château built in 1819–1826 and the Church of St James the Greater, dating from 1346.
