Bílovec lies in the Nový Jičín District and covers 38.87 km². In 2025, it had approximately 7,400 residents.
The first written record of Bílovec dates to 1324, when the town was owned by Vok I of Kravař. The castle in Bílovec was rebuilt in the Renaissance style around 1575 and remodelled in the Baroque style after a fire in 1729. The tower of St Nicholas Church has a viewing gallery 31 metres above ground, reached by 143 steps.
